Author Interview with Michael D. Dennis

Please welcome to Vonnie's Reading Corner, Michael D. Dennis, author of A Native's Tongue!

Let's hear a little bit about Mr. Dennis:

1. In one sentence, describe your book.

A young man struggles to keep the woman he loves while entangled in the sex, drugs, and tragedy of Los Angeles.

2. What is the meaning of the book title, A Native’s Tongue?

There are definitely a lot of ways it can be interpreted. I would say that it really means a local language, or way of speaking that only natives can understand.

Teaser Tuesdays #87

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Should Be Reading.

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

It has been weeks since I've participated in Teaser Tuesdays! This is one my favorite weekly memes that I really need to keep doing.

Review: Blood Green by Ashley Nemer

Blood Green

The three worlds have collided and are coming to an end. Zayn and Nikole face off for the final battle with Haydar and Leigh in a match to the death.

Who will come out alive, and who will come out in the afterlife?

Good does not always triumph over evil, and in the Algula world, that is even more true.

Life as they know it is forever changed when heads roll.

Will Adara's child survive after Haydar has taken her prisoner?

Will Alec's death go avenged?

What will happen to Nasir now that Leigh is here?

Blood Green, because all good things come to an end.

Audio Book: A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James

Read by Susan Duerden

Synopsis: Miss Kate Daltry doesn’t believe in fairy tales . . .or happily ever after.

Forced by her stepmother to attend a ball, Kate meets a prince . . . and decides he’s anything but charming. A clash of wits and wills ensues, but they both know their irresistible attraction will lead nowhere. For Gabriel is promised to another woman—a princess whose hand in marriage will fulfill his ruthless ambitions.

Gabriel likes his fiancé, which is a welcome turn of events, but he doesn’t love her. Obviously, he should be wooing his bride-to-be, not the witty, impoverished beauty who refuses to fawn over him.
Godmothers and glass slippers notwithstanding, this is one fairy tale in which destiny conspires to destroy any chance that Kate and Gabriel might have a happily ever after.

Author Interview: Lynn Steward

Vonnie's Reading Corner would like to welcome debut novelist Lynn Steward. She's the author of A Very Good Life

Lynn Steward, author

Welcome to Vonnie’s Reading Corner.  In one sentence, tells us what your book is about.
Against a 1970s New York City backdrop in the exciting worlds of art, fashion, and business, Dana McGarry, faced with swift and unwanted changes to her privileged lifestyle, is about to learn that the art of seduction will affect both her career and her marriage.

Why did you decide to set your book in the 1970s?
It is a period I know very well, and, as a native of Long Island, spending twenty-two years in Manhattan, I have an intimate knowledge of the location and the protagonist’s work in the fashion industry.

What three words would describe your main character, Dana McGarry?

Audio Book: Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli

Read by S. Epatha Merkerson

Synopsis: Jeffrey Lionel "Maniac" Magee might have lived a normal life if a freak accident hadn't made him an orphan. After living with his unhappy and uptight aunt and uncle for eight years, he decides to run--and not just run away, but run. This is where the myth of Maniac Magee begins, as he changes the lives of a racially divided small town with his amazing and legendary feats.

My Thoughts: I've enjoyed Jerry Spinelli's books before and I was looking forward to this one. I had no idea what it was about since I simply checked it out only because it was available and it was a Spinelli book. I have to say, this took me longer to "read" then I expected.
