The 2014 Jane Eyre Read-Along: Week 1

The 2014 Jane Eyre Read-Along
is hosted by

Here are the first week's discussion questions:

What do you know about this novel and its author?
Have you ever read it before, or is this your first reading?
Have you seen any of the TV or movie versions?

I read Jane Eyre over ten years ago in high school. I was in an AP English course and Jane Eyre was on the list of many recommended reads. Not everyone in class picked to read this book, but I'm glad that I did for it became one of my favorite classics.

Spotlight of The Second Coming: A Love Story by Scott Pinsker

The Second Coming: A Love Story
By Scott Pinsker

Two men claim to be the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.  Each claims the other is Satan in disguise.  But only one is telling the truth… and damned if anyone knows who’s who.

In The Second Coming: A Love Story, author Scott Pinsker takes a battle-axe to the Left Behind clichés, reimagining the End Days prophecies as an unruly theo-thriller: Soon after the earthly arrivals of two VERY different Second Comings, the United States splits along ideological lines, with Red America swiftly swearing allegiance to the conservative “savior” and Blue America (naturally) worshiping at the altar of the other.  A cutthroat Culture War-turned-Holy War explodes, with both sides waging a win-at-all-costs marketing campaign to prove their savior’s supremacy.

It’s finally happened: Red America and Blue America are headed for Armageddon!

Review: Knight of Light (The Watchers #1) by Deirdra Eden

“The Watchers” are supernatural beings in human form, charged with protecting mankind from the armies of darkness. Unfortunately, some of these Watchers go bad.

Deirdra Eden’s The Watcher’s Series is written in a traditional fairytale style with a young girl’s discovery of incredible, but dangerous powers within herself, a cast of humorous side-kicks, a quest for greater self-discovery and purpose, and villains of epic proportions.

In England, 1270 A.D., Auriella (pronounced yurr-ee-ella) flees her village after being accused of witchcraft. Pursued by nightmarish creatures, she struggles to accept the truth about her humanity.

Blog Tour Spotlight + Giveaway: Confessions of a Self-Help Writer by Benjamin Dehaven

#1 Most-Wished-for-Book of 2014 on Indie
Bound for over 10 weeks!

>Lunge into a funny, audacious, and devastating work of fiction based on factual events. As much a comedy as a tragedy, "Confessions is a unique piece of literature to be remembered for its originality as much as for its significance as a statement about living life in today's harsh reality." Explore the psyche of one of the world's most profound advisors: a Quixotic adventurer who admits freely to lurid depravity, substance abuse, and emotional complexity. Despite personal demons, he's fooled adherents into a unique reverence and might be responsible for saving more souls than Mother Teresa and Gandhi combined.

Hypocrite isn't a strong enough word for someone who writes self-help books purely for profit. Two of the world's ten wealthiest used Enzo as a ghostwriter and while they attribute their status in life to Enzo's words, not a single one willingly admits to knowing him. DeHaven, a patsy in Enzo's schemes and a recurring voice, shares his own perspective and often times paints himself in a very negative light, which adds a layer of credibility to such a fantastical story. Brief moments of compassion and insight are even more powerful and poignant from this perspective.

Dancing August Away

August was a wonderful month for me when it came to dance. I was able to experience many wonderful workshops, shows, and celebrations all surrounding with dance. This month has helped me grow not only as a dancer but as a person as well. So what did I do?

First off, I left for Kansas in the beginning of the month to experience Ahmed Hussien's First Annual Belly Dance Camp presented by Anoush Belly Dance. Yup, that's right. I went to dance camp! :)

Book-to-Movie: Austenland (2013)

Director: Jerusha Hess
Writers: Jerusha Hess & Shannon Hale
Stars: Keri Russell, JJ Feild, Bret McKenzie, James Callis, Jane Seymour & Jennifer Coolidge

My Thoughts: I saw this movie listed onDemand and was debating whether or not watch it first before reading the book. I ended up giving in to the film since the preview looked adorable. I very much enjoy anything that is Jane Austen inspired, so I was looking forward to this one.

At first, I was not too sure what to expect with this film. I was pleasantly surprised how quirky and fun it was. I loved the characters and I loved the storyline. It was not the best film that I've watched but it won my heart.
