This hop is hosted by Billy over at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Every week participants answer a question and then visit other blogs participating. The purpose of the hop is to give bloggers the chance to meet new bloggers, get to know one another better, and get new followers. This week's question is:
What is your favorite genre? (genre that you read the most) - Recommend a book!
A: I am a very eclectic reader so I don't really have one specific genre that's my favorite. Also, I tend to go through certain moods where I'll find myself reading only romance novels then all of a sudden dystopian novels.
Here are some books that I recommend:
Book Beginnings on Friday is hosted by Rose City Reader and The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice.
Blood Purple by Ashley Nemer
The beginning: "Everyone assumed the war in the Middle East was fought over oil and power, but only one of those assumptions is correct."
Page 56: "They tortured her, and now we can't find her. She is missing. We need someone to track her."
My Thoughts: I am liking the idea that the vampires in this story (yes, there's vampires) are Arabic. It gives the mythological creatures a "newness".
I am posting my review for this book tomorrow afternoon, so make sure to stop by :)
Interesting choices. Nice post. Love that you posted the book covers.

My Blog Hop Answer
Oh you read Lamb, by Chris Moore??? I like him but have not read that yet!
ReplyDeleteLamb is my favorite book of Moore. You should give it a try :)
DeleteLamb is pretty good but I much prefer some of his other underrated works such as "Fluke" or "Fool" which was a very clever and hilarious re-telling of Lear from the perspective of his court jester.
ReplyDeleteI have Fluke in my TBR pile. I still need to get my hands on Fool.
DeleteI credit Anne Rice for my love of reading! Happy Blog Hop!

Hello! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog over @ http://impressionsinink.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI just followed you through Google, will follow this blog too.
I think both of those assumptions are correct. You really can't have one without the other. <--- Re: the beginning.
ReplyDeleteThe 56 is highly intriguing though.
Happy weekend!
In the real world yes both are correct...but in my world of Algula you will find that there are other factors going on in that mix...
DeleteOh yes, Diana Gabaldon novels I love - her Outlander ones that is.
ReplyDeleteVery eclectic recommendations, Vonnie! I've read Leroux's "The Phantom of the Opera", but, to be honest, I much prefer Susan Kay's version, "Phantom". I had not heard of "Lamb" before, but it sounds hilarious, so I've added it to my TBR. As for Rice's "Interview with the Vampire", I'm not sure I want to read it. I've heard that it's VERY sensual. I guess I could give it a try, though. I discovered "Becoming Latina" through your blog, and definitely want to read it! As for Gabaldon's "Outlander", I've owned it for years, and have yet to read it! ARRGGH!! Lastly, while "Moloka'i" sounds like a very well-written book, I think it would be too sad and painfully realistic for me....
ReplyDeleteNow on to the other two hops! I'm SO eager to read "Blood Purple"!! I LOVE that cover!! And the plot is definitely very exciting! Those are nice quotes you included, too!
Thanks for everything you shared!! :)
Blood Purple is ready for you to read it too!!!
DeleteI'll go order it right away!! :)
DeleteYes, I too prefer Susan Kay's book but I can't dismiss the original since it started it all. Phantom of the Opera will always have a special place in my heart.
DeleteAnne Rice is not for everyone. People today have a harder time getting into her writing because of how rich it is and how "real" yet dark her vampires are compared to the lovely ones of today. I was lucky enough to read her during a time before vampires began to sparkle or were constantly seen as sex objects.
Gosh! You HAVE to read Outlander and Moloka'i!!! Outlander is huge but worth it. Moloka'i is very tragic but it touches your soul.
I really liked Molokai but I think I liked it even more since I grew up in Hawaii. I have had several patrons say that they love the Outlander series. Great menagerie of reading choices.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing more posts and I hope to see you around my blog again!

Outlander - what a great choice! One of my friends loaned me the first few books years ago, and I've purchased and read every one since then! Very enjoyable. Molokai and Lamb are on my "I must buy these one day" list! :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I had more time to dedicate in reading all of the Outlander books. I've only gotten to the first three.
DeleteLoving both Vamps and the color Purple, I will be heading right over for your review. Can't wait!!
ReplyDeleteCome on by Harlie's Books and check out our Friday 56 and Book Beginning!
