Children's Book: Fumbulgrumbul by Jason Sandberg

Fumbulgrumbul by Jason Sandberg

Meet Mister Fumbulgrumbul. You'll see him when he fumbles, you'll hear him when he grumbles. When a poodle comes after his cookies, you know that hilarity will ensue. This richly illustrated rhyming picture book will be enjoyed over and over, by parent and child alike!

"This book is anchored by the rhyming comedic tale of a man attempting to keep some cookies away from a poodle. The supplementary challenge I set for myself was to work subplots into a Picture Book without making the narrative confusing for a Preschool audience. I did this by parading whimsical and fantastic supporting characters through the backgrounds of the pages. These charming sight gags should add a secondary level of enjoyment to the reading experience." - Jason Sandberg

My Thoughts: Another wonderful children's book by the talented Jason Sandberg! This was a cute story with wonderful illustrations. I was quite entertained by the whole aspect of the book from the cover all the way to the last page.

With the help of rhyme, we were introduced to a silly character named Fumbulgrumbul who was carrying three boxes of cookies. But poor Mr. Fumbulgrumbul. Things didn't go as planned due to a poodle and a puddle. Fumbulgrumbul's story was short and adorable. How he tried to problem solve were quite silly and innocent. These qualities were what made his character loveable.

What I loved best about this book were the illustrations. Not only did they depict the story straight on, but the backgrounds had extra entertainment making Fumbulgrumbul's world different and special. I found myself grinning as different scenes were shown on each page. I also enjoyed how there was one scene that connected to another of Mr. Sandberg's books. It was fun to learn how the worlds created in his books were connected.

As a whole, this book really captured the fun side: reminding each of us the child within us. Not only will young children enjoy this book, but adults would love this book as well. Hats off to Jason Sandberg for creating another wonderful book!

Thanks, Jason, for generously gifting me this book and for the picture below!
