Audiobook: Of Poseidon by Anna Banks

Read by Rebecca Gibel
Time: 9 hours 34 minutes

Emma and her friend Chloe are spending vacation in Florida. When Emma (literally) runs into a hot guy named Galen on the beach, little does she know he’s a prince of the Syrena. Galen and Emma both feel something strange–is it attraction?–and Galen suspects that Emma might well be the girl he’s heard of–a human who can communicate with fish. What follows is a deadly scene with a shark in which Galen witnesses Emma’s gifts. He must know more about her, and follows her back to New Jersey, and high school, to find out for sure if she’s the key to saving his kingdom. Soon, Emma can’t deny her feelings for him, but can’t explain them, either–and both she and Galen must learn more about where she comes from and what her powers are before they can trust one another and their feelings. Told from both Emma and Galen’s points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.

My Thoughts: How would you react if you found out that you could talk to fish? This realization was something that happened to the main character, Emma. I've received an ARC of this book years ago and never got around to reading it. When I saw that the audiobook was available at my library, I was stoked. I couldn't wait to dive into this book since I've heard many great things about it.

First of all, this book was hilarious! I did not expect myself to be laughing many times throughout the book. The things that the characters said to each other were witty and silly. Each character had great combats to each others' comments, that had me snorting and grinning while listening. The humorous tone of the book made the pace fast and fun.

Next, I enjoyed the personalities of the characters. Emma was feisty and knew how to stand her ground. She was not afraid to voice her opinions about anything. Galen was the macho prince who expected to have everything his way, but I enjoyed how his "control" was waned by Emma. He even began to have a change of heart when it came to his feelings towards humans because of her. Then there was Rayna, Galen's twin sister. She was the spoiled princess who spoke her mind and detested Emma. However, it was nice to see that she had real emotions in the inside. With these personalities, it made this book interesting to hear about the interactions between the characters.

Finally, the reader, Rebecca Gibel, did an excellent job with the presentation of this book. She was lively with her performance, she was able to captivate each of the characters well, and was able to emphasize the moods in each situation. She helped create a "movie" in my mind. I highly enjoyed how she read the story smoothly and how she was able to keep me hook the whole time. Rebecca Gibel has become a new favorite reader of mine for audiobooks.

As a whole, I found this audio presentation of Anna Bank's Of Poseidon to be entertaining. I had a swell time listening to Rebecca Gibel bring the characters to life and for making the story captivating. I especially loved how humorous the book was for it always left me a huge grin every time I finished listening to a chapter. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in the series. I rate it:

I'm one of those people who like listening more to audiobooks than reading books!! I've become such a lazy reader... So, another audiobook is right up my alley. :-)

    1. Lol lazy reader
I simply don't have time to sit down and read, but I do commute a lot so audiobooks are a blessing for me.

I hope you'll get the chance to read Of Poseidon
