February Wrap-up & Time for a Change
Hello everyone! I haven't done one of these in a while and I figured it's time to do so.
February was a very slow month for me when it came to reading. Sadly, I was only able to get through five books (three I practically rushed through to make deadlines).
All of these were good books; Throne of Glass was my favorite amongst the bunch. However, I do not feel happy with this month's reads.
Why?
In the past few months I have been jammed with reviews while at the same time trying to balance the many activities that happen in my personal life. I have come to the point that I feel burnt out and no longer enjoy my blog as much. I accepted too many books to review and joined too many blog tours.
My blog turned into a "spam" type of place where it regurgitated the same type of posts that others were posting instead of having original posts.
I was also no longer reading for pleasure. I was too busy reading the review books. I found myself constantly trying to catch up, half-reading or rushing through these books, and reading the books at the last minute just to meet deadlines.
It was fun at first but this was not the reason why I started blogging.
I started blogging because I wanted to share my thoughts on the books I read, discuss different topics about the book world, and have a space to share my dancing adventures. Though I haven't stopped dancing, I have stopped reading books for enjoyment. This is not okay. I want to gain back my passion for reading and to be able to read at my own pace. I definitely want to be able to tackle my TBR pile.
To do so, I have decided to opt out of blog tours. I still have a couple that I've already signed up for and will still participate in those, but I will no longer join in any more (at least for this year). I am also going to be extremely picky on what books I accept for review from authors/publishers that contact me. It's going to be hard because there are many books that I get excited about, but I must do so to stay sane.
So Vonnie's Reading Corner will be slowing down for a bit. You will only see reviews on books that I've personally chose for pleasure, see more of my participation in the weekly meme of Teaser Tuesdays, and see some dance posts. Because I have so many things going on in my personal life (for one I'm trying to go back to school to get my teaching credential), I won't have time to post as often.
I hope that my few readers would understand my decision and I hope that they would still continue to visit. If not, I thank you for taking the time to read this and for being a follower.
Have a happy reading!
Vonnie
Thanks for sharing with us what's been going one with you these days.
ReplyDeleteWishing you loads of success in obtaining your teaching credential. :-)
Thanks, Lisa! The only reading I've been doing these past few weeks have been those CSET study guides. Very exciting stuff, right?
DeleteGood luck with your teaching credential!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about feeling burnt out. I reached that point on a smaller scale a few weeks ago. I think I can blame it on winter, though.
I blame a lot of things on winter, lol. Thanks for the wonderful wishes, Lisa!
DeleteExcellent, excellent for you, Vonnie! A little reevaluation is good for the soul sometimes.
