My thoughts: I'm going to be honest, I was not sure what to expect about this book. I've heard many people rave about it and saw that a movie was made based on it. Also, the title made me think that the protagonist would be a girl since wallflowers are usually associated with them, so I was a bit surprised to read through the eyes of a teenage boy. The Perks of Being a Wallflower was a quick and easy read that had both good and bad points.

Audiobook: The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson
Synopsis: Bill Bryson was born in the middle of the American century—1951—in the middle of the United States—Des Moines, Iowa—in the middle of the largest generation in American history—the baby boomers. As one of the best and funniest writers alive, he is perfectly positioned to mine his memories of a totally all-American childhood for 24-carat memoir gold. Like millions of his generational peers, Bill Bryson grew up with a rich fantasy life as a superhero. In his case, he ran around his house and neighborhood with an old football jersey with a thunderbolt on it and a towel about his neck that served as his cape, leaping tall buildings in a single bound and vanquishing awful evildoers (and morons)—in his head—as "The Thunderbolt Kid."
My thoughts: Bill Bryson is known for his humor and I needed to listen to a funny read. The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid was my first Bryson book that held my interest to a point.

LA Times Festival of Books 2013
Every year I make time to go to my favorite festival, The Festival of Books! I love going there because you are surrounded by people that love books, books are everywhere, authors are there to talk to you and sign your books, there are awesome shows, there are celebrities, and there's a lot of free sh*t!
Last year, I got the chance to meet my favorite author, Anne Rice. This year I was able to meet with two other great authors:

Review: Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
Synopsis: Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.
In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.
And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.
Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages--not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.

Blog Tour: Replacing Gentry by Julie N. Ford + Giveaway
Tour Schedule |
Replacing Gentry
When Marlie agrees to attend a cadaver ball at Vanderbilt Medical School, she did not expect to actually see any cadavers. Or, that a strange apparition would issue her a chilling message.
Despite the cadaver's warning, Marlie is married a year later to Tennessee State Senator, Daniel Cannon, and living in a plantation-style mansion with two step sons. Add to the mix her growing suspicion that something is amiss with the death of Daniel’s first wife, Gentry; and newlywed Marlie is definitely in over her pretty Yankee head.
What begins as an innocent inquiry into her new husband’s clouded past, ends with Marlie in the midst of a dangerous conspiracy.
A modern twist on the classic Gothic romance novels of Rebecca and Jane Eyre, Replacing Gentry follows Marlie’s precarious journey as she learns the truth about the man she married.

Review: Bad Boys Ahoy! by Sylvia Day
18+
Synopsis: Oh, those naughty rakes. With their wicked winks, sensual smiles, and bad boy habits, you just can't take them out in polite society. But, who wants to go out when you can stay in...?
My thoughts: It has been a while since I've read a Sylvia Day book and this one has been on my shelf for a few years now. I am so glad that I finally got the chance to read it. I was hesitant at first because I am not a big fan of anthologies but I took my time with this one and made sure to enjoy each of the three stories.

March Wrap-up + April's Plans
Another Month has passed by and a new one has begun. March was another busy month for me yet I hardly got anything done. I didn't continue looking for any schools to get my credential because work and dance have kept me incredibly busy. Also, I read less this month but it was still a pretty decent list:
The Grimm Chronicles Vol. 1 by Isabella Fontaine and Ken Brosky 4.5 stars
The Dead and the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer 4 stars (Audiobook)
The Grimm Chronicles Vol. 2 by Isabella Fontaine and Ken Brosky
Aura by Rebecca Lynn Talley 3 stars
Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl 4 stars
This World We Live In by Susan Beth Pfeffer 3 stars (Audiobook)
Flash Gold by Lindsay Buroker 3 stars
