This hop is hosted by Billy over at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Every week bloggers answer a question and then visit other blogs that are participating. This week's question is:
What is your favorite genre? List two of your favorite books in that genre.
A: I don't really have a favorite genre since I like to read all kinds of books. Some of my favorite books are: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, Becoming Latina in 10 Easy Steps by Lara Rios, The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux, The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling, Lamb the Gospel According to Biff by Christopher Moore, etc...
Book Beginnings on Friday is hosted by Rose City Reader and The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice.
Wolgast Castle by Linda Bell Brighton
The beginning: "Roasting meat smells drifted into the carriage. Under my dress weren't the familiar warning signals pricking my arms and legs, but burning as though the sun scorched my skin."
Page 56: "His smile warmed me as the hot water couldn't. 'You are everything I supposed you to be when you did not fall under the Dragon's glare.' "
The opening lines really caught my attention because of the details. I really wanted to know what was happening to the main character.
Page 56 has me scratching my head because I didn't know that there will be dragons in this book (I'm only on page 12).
That's a curious opening, vivid with the sensations but I wonder what's really going on with the character.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading! My Friday Book Memes
Different opening. Here is my

I thought I was the only one on the planet that read and loved Lamb the Gospel According to Biff. Great picks because I love Anne Rice too. I see we have the same reading taste. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
DeleteI see you do have a variety of favorite genres. I have yet to read the Outlander series. My sister loved them.
ReplyDeleteTHANKS for stopping by my blog earlier.
Happy Hopping!!

I have to say that I have no idea what is happening to the character from that first line. Where is the smell coming from and what signals was she missing? Intriguing. I am hosting a book giveaway on my Book Beginnings post today so if you are interested, please click over and comment for a chance to win. Have a great day!

ReplyDeleteIt is hard to commit to one genre, for sure!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lot of warming up in the first trilogy. Hope you enjoy the book. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteHarry potter was really close to making our lists, but figured it would come up a lot so switched it up :)

I love the cover of the novel as well as your Friday 56 and Book Beginnings.
ReplyDeleteYour beginning is interesting but confusing...you sure caught my attention.

My Book Beginnings
Not sure why that is the first sentence, but the book is FANTASTIC, Vonnie.
ReplyDeleteLook at my review. :) You will agree that THE WEDDING GIFT is worth reading.
I've read Leroux's version of the Phantom, but I prefer the one by Susan Kay. Leroux made Eric too much of a monster, in my opinion. Still, I am a Phan!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to read The Vampire Chronicles or OUTLANDER. Hard to believe, right? I'll get to them, I hope, before the zombie apocalypse....lol.
The book you've featured for The Friday 56 is quite unusual, but that doesn't faze me at all, since I'm a fan of paranormal fiction and urban fantasy. The quotes you've presented have really got my curiosity piqued!
Nice posts! Thanks for sharing and....HAPPY READING!! : )
As much as we are in love with Erik and would like to see him as the good guy, we have to remember that he was originally written as a monster. Think of Dracula, he too was a monster but over time he has been turned into something sexy and desired.
DeleteI too love Susan Kay's portrayal of the phantom, but I still love the original since it inspired all of the wonderful works that got me obsessed with the story.
P.S. I've just checked out this book on Amazon, and it's a Kindle edition....boo-hoo.... No, I won't be adding it to my TBR list.... Who knows, maybe someday the Book Fairy will take pity on me, and help the book to come out in print! I'll cross all my fingers and toes! : )
ReplyDeleteYeah, sorry about that.
DeleteI know, it's so hard to choose one genre!
