Holiday Edition:
What is your favorite book set around Christmastime?
A: I will have to say How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss. It is a classic and a beloved story that has even inspired a song that is played during the holidays. The world of Dr. Seuss is very fascinating and I cannot help but adore how the Whos love their Christmas no matter if a sour old Grinch is trying to steal it away.
Book Beginnings on Friday is hosted by Rose City Reader and The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice.
Into the Deep by Missy Fleming
The beginning: "Fat raindrops pummel the car as I watch my classmates filing onto the bus. My biology class is taking a field trip to the aquarium and while that makes me nervous on its own, the weather isn't the reason for my clammy palms."
Page 56: "I've never seen anything like it. I'm not sure anyone has. It requires a lot of power to unleash that kind of fury."

It's an interesting book so far but I really wish I had more time to read. My mind is not here right now with Christmas approaching and trying to get everything settled before our Christmas break. Gosh...I really need that break.
An intriguing opening and page 56...enjoy!

ReplyDeleteI usually don't read Christmas-themed books, but I remember reading that one to my son.
There is a free download of A Christmas Carol on my blog if you want to stop by courtesy of Atria Books.

Sounds very cool. Intriguing 56 but that beginning grabbed my attention. Based on the cover I am making assumptions as to why the nervousness at the aquarium. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend and happy holidays!
GREAT opening! The author makes me want to know what's causing those clammy palms.
ReplyDeleteMy Book Beginnings/Friday 56 post features MAGGIE'S TURN.
Wonder what caused that type of fury?
ReplyDeleteThe Grinch is a great story. Lovely pick. :)

ReplyDeleteHey, Vonnie!
Oh, I love that Grinch! Although I've never read the book itself, I'm familiar with the story, due to the TV specials. Great pick!
I really like the book you've selected for the two Friday memes. That cover is awesome! And I adore mermaid stories! Too bad it's an ebook......I've already checked it out on Amazon. Gee, I hope the author decides to release in a printed edition soon, since I don't like ebooks at all! The synopsis is absolutely fascinating, too....so I do hope this author takes pity on all of us die-hard printed book addicts!
