Audiobook: The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux

Read by Alexander Adams

Synopsis: A mysterious presence has invaded the Paris Opera, bullying the managers and enthralling a beautiful young prima donna. This famous tale, the basis for the musical, involves ghosts, passion, horror, obsession, and romance. Audie Award finalist.

My Thoughts: This was my second time listening to the Phantom on audio, but the first time with this production. I have read this novel countless of times since I am absolutely obsessed with this story due to the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Though I know most of this novel by heart, it still surprised me that I learned more with this second run of listening to it.

Spotlight: Break the Chains by Dr. Jay D. Roberts, MD

Title:  Break the Chains

Genre:  Memoir

Author:  Jay D Roberts, MD

Website:   jdrobertsmd.com

Publisher:   Tate Publishing and Enterprises, LLC

If you were abused over and over again, would you become an abuser? Or would you learn to forgive? Dr. Jay Roberts had to go to prison to learn the answer.

In 1999 Dr. Roberts was in at-home hospice care preparing for his own death from a neurological disease. At the point where he finally gave up, he experienced a spontaneous, overnight healing. It was not the first time he had “cheated” death. He had survived a fifty-foot fall from a cliff, a plane crash, and attempts on his life by rebel insurgents in remote areas in the Philippines in 1970s. This near-death escape was different though, because it was the culmination of a turbulent lifelong dialogue with God which started when he was a child being bull-whipped by his alcoholic father. Yet even after his complete recovery from disease, it would take a maximum security prison environment to reveal to him the mysterious power of forgiveness.

Spotlight: An Incurable Insanity by Simi K. Rao

Simi K. Rao’s contemporary romance novel An Incurable Insanity, published by Tate Publishing, was released on October 8, 2013.

"In Rao's debut novel, an arranged Indian marriage sets the stage for an intimate look at the exasperating madness of love.... An often intoxicating... will-they-or-won't-they tale."- KIRKUS REVIEWS

An Incurable Insanity

By Simi K. Rao

Shaan is a recent 27 year old aerospace masters grad, who lands the perfect job in a leading aeronautics and space exploration company in Los Angeles. At the urging of his parents' he goes down the traditional arranged marriage route, leaving behind a lover and a complicated relationship in Los Angeles. As a result, Shaan and Ruhi's marriage has an awkward and uncomfortable start. The begrudging spouses make a pact: Ruhi will stay with Shaan in the United States only long enough to avoid embarrassment from their family and peers. Ruhi, remaining optimistic thinks that she can use this time to try and win Shaan's heart, but to no avail. Follow Ruhi and Shaan on a roller coaster ride as they attempt to be “friends without benefits” and expose their true selves to each other in search of love and happiness.

While An Incurable Insanity provides fascinating glimpses into traditional Indian culture, it is an intriguing love story with universal appeal.

Author Interview: Janiera Eldridge

Interview with Author Janiera Eldridge

 1.     With so many vampire books out there, what makes Soul Sisters unique?

Everything about Soul Sisters is unique! It’s a multicultural vampire story, it’s about twin sisters where one is human and one is a vampire and the story of their creation is truly unique. People are constantly telling me how unique the vampire transformation is and I always enjoy hearing that!

2.     Do you relate to any of your characters?

I relate to Dana, the laid back sister, a lot. She just wants to be alone with her books and maybe…maybe… find true love. She’s loyal to a fault and will go to the ends of the earth to please the people she loves. I feel like that’s me a lot.

Halloween Edition: Norman Bates VS Hannibal Lecter: Which one of these famous book murderers is scarier?

A: Gosh, I would have to say Hannibal Lecter. I know Norman Bates is one crazy mo'fo, but I rather be stuck in a room with him versus Hannibal. Hannibal would just eat my face off while still alive *shudder.*

In the tradition of The Natural and The Field of Dreams, this is a mythic story about how a man and a boy meet in the crossroads of their life and find a way to go on. Audiobook: Judas Kiss by J.T. Ellison

Read by Joyce Bean

Synopsis: Sex, lies and videotape.

It was a murder made for TV: a trail of tiny bloody footprints. An innocent toddler playing beside her mother's bludgeoned body. Pretty young Corinne Wolff, seven months pregnant, brutally murdered in her own home.

Cameras and questions don't usually phase Nashville Homicide Lieutenant Taylor Jackson, but the media frenzy surrounding the Wolff case is particularly nasty...and thorough. When the seemingly model mommy is linked to an amateur porn website with underage actresses and unwitting players, the sharks begin to circle.
