Review Tour- Rook: Allie's War by JC Andriejeski

Urban Fantasy

Date Published: November 13, 2013

The world is dying. Everyone feels it, and yet, no one knows.
They said that when the end was near, a Bridge would come, and lead them out of the darkness of that dying world.
Allie Taylor's life was relatively normal...
Until Revik showed up.
And told her she was that Bridge.

 ROOK: Allie's War Episodes 1-4
"You are the Bridge..."

Like most humans, Allie spent her life distancing herself from Seers, a race of human-like beings discovered on Earth in the early 1900s. Then she catches her boyfriend in the arms of a hot band groupie, and Allie goes from San Francisco artist slacker to the girl wearing the GPS anklet.

That's the least of her problems, though, compared to the shock of discovering who--and what--she really is.

Yanked out of her life by the mysterious Revik, Allie finds out that her blood may not be as "human" as she always thought. Through Revik she learns the truth: that Seers are nothing like she thought, that the world is nothing like it appears to be...and she has far more in common with Seers than she ever wanted to believe.

My Thoughts: The world is dying and a bridge is supposed to come and save everyone. This very idea was what caught my interest to this book. I could not wait to start reading it to find out how everything would plan out. I also wanted to read how the main character, Allie, was the bridge. I was immediately sucked into this world but I did find many obstacles in the way.

The story itself was very fascinating. It started off very strong. We were introduced to Allie and we immediately know that she was different. It was also attention-grabbing that the book started off with her being arrested.  Next, this world contained a race called the "Seers." They were feared creatures but they were enslaved by humans. It was interesting to read who the seers were and how they tied into Allie's story. Then of course there was the love interest, Revik. His characteristics made him sound very mysterious and the constant obstacles had me wondering how Allie and Revik were going to be together.

However, I did have a hard time reading many parts. I felt disconnected with Allie and I sometimes felt that her relationship with Revik was forced. Also, I felt that the plot dragged a bit in different areas. It was great that the story was broken into four different books but even with these breaks I felt that Rook was somewhat long. Other than these, it was still a fun read.

As a whole, this was a unique read. With some slight adjustments, I think this series would be entertaining. I rate it:

  1. Sounds very interesting, Vonnie! It's too bad you didn't entirely enjoy these books.....but sometimes that happens. I think the whole concept seems intriguing enough that I will at least try out the first book (in paperback, of course, lol) and see how it goes....

Thanks for the great review!! :)
