A Winter's Respite Readathon Wrap-up

Seasons of Reading

A Winter's Respite Readathon, hosted by Seasons of Reading, has ended.

How did I do? Eh...Not as well as I planned.
My plan was to...
  • Listen to 2-3 audiobooks
  • Read 1-2 library books
  • Read 1 TBR ebook
  • Read 2-3 TBR books from shelves

So what did I actually get done?

I finished listening to one audiobook. ONE!! (What the...)

Friday Posts #13

It's that time again! It's time to participate in the many memes happening on Fridays.
The first three memes will be focusing on the book...

Enslave
by Cathy Yardley

Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice and Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader. The idea is to share a sentence or so from the first page and the 56th page of the book you are currently reading!

Six Word Summary is hosted by the (book) supplier. The idea of the meme is to summarize a book using only six words.

Audiobook: The Island of Dr. Libris by Chris Grabenstein

Duration: 5 hours and 11 minutes

What if your favorite characters came to life? Billy's spending the summer in a lakeside cabin that belongs to the mysterious Dr. Libris. But something strange is going on. Besides the security cameras everywhere, there's Dr. Libris's private bookcase. Whenever Billy opens the books inside, he can hear sounds coming from the island in the middle of the lake. The clash of swords. The twang of arrows. Sometimes he can even feel the ground shaking. It's almost as if the stories he's reading are coming to life! But that's impossible . . . isn't it?

Library Love: The Martian by Andy Weir

http://images.gr-assets.com/books/1413706054l/18007564.jpg Yay!! I finally finished this book! I started it on the last week of December. I was not expecting it to take so long in reading this. Well...here's my review:

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.

Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there.

After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate the planet while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded on Mars' surface, completely alone, with no way to signal Earth that he’s alive. And even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone years before a rescue could arrive.

Chances are, though, Mark won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Little Free Library Adventure #4

Boy...it has been a while since I have gone on one of these adventures.  I had to take my car to Garden Grove (about 35 minutes from where I live) to the dealer to get its oil change.

I was stuck there for a few hours, so I decided to reward myself by searching for a LFL in Garden Grove. I only found one:

A Winter's Respite Readathon Start-Up Post

Seasons of Reading

A Winter's Respite Readathon has begun!!!! I'm a little late with this post. It has been one crazy day...it started off fine but then found out that my best friend was sent to the hospital. *sigh* She's all better now after an emergency surgery. Thank goodness!!!

Anywho...

A Winter's Respite Readathon is hosted by Seasons of Reading. The read-a-thon is very laid back. The main goal is to simply read.

Sign-up for the Winter's Respite Readathon!

Seasons of Reading

What? I am doing another read-a-thon?! Didn't I just do Bout of Books? Yup!!! I figured I am going to get as much reading as I can before I get super busy with my last semester of my program.

So what is this read-a-thon about?

The Winter's Respite Readathon is hosted by Seasons of Reading. The read-a-thon is very laid back. The main goal is to simply read. Here's what their blog says:

Library Love: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Audiobook: A Crooked Kind of Perfect by Linda Urban

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51pVh2VDq1L._SL300_.jpgRead by Tai Alexandra Ricci
Duration: 3 hours and 17 minutes
Ten-year-old Zoe Elias has perfect piano dreams. She can practically feel the keys under her flying fingers; she can hear the audience's applause. All she needs is a baby grand so she can start her lessons, and then she'll be well on her way to Carnegie Hall.

But when Dad ventures to the music store and ends up with a wheezy organ instead of a piano, Zoe's dreams hit a sour note. Learning the organ versions of old TV theme songs just isn't the same as mastering Beethoven on the piano. And the organ isn't the only part of Zoe's life that's off-kilter, what with Mom constantly at work, Dad afraid to leave the house, and that odd boy, Wheeler Diggs, following her home from school every day.

Yet when Zoe enters the annual Perform-O-Rama organ competition, she finds that life is full of surprises - and that perfection may be even better when it's just a little off center.

In her small early nineteenth century Welsh town, there is no one quite like Morgana. She is small and quick and pretty enough to attract a suitor, but there are things that set her apart from other girls. Though her mind is sharp she has not spoken since she was a young girl. Her silence is a mystery, as well as her magic the household objects that seem to move at her command, the bad luck that visits those who do her ill. Concerned for her safety, her mother is anxious to see Morgana married, and Cai Jenkins, the widowed drover from the far hills who knows nothing of the rumors that swirl around her, seems the best choice.

#ShelfLove: Newes from the Dead by Mary Hooper

I finally finished my first book of 2017! Woop woop!

http://images.gr-assets.com/books/1312024453l/2097938.jpg
WRONGED. HANGED. ALIVE? (AND TRUE!)

Anne can't move a muscle, can't open her eyes, can't scream. She lies immobile in the darkness, unsure if she'd dead, terrified she's buried alive, haunted by her final memory—of being hanged. A maidservant falsely accused of infanticide in 1650 England and sent to the scaffold, Anne Green is trapped with her racing thoughts, her burning need to revisit the events—and the man—that led her to the gallows.

Meanwhile, a shy 18-year-old medical student attends his first dissection and notices something strange as the doctors prepare their tools . . . Did her eyelids just flutter? Could this corpse be alive?
