  My Own Mr. Darcy
After being dragged to the 2005 movie Pride and Prejudice by her mother, sixteen-year-old Elizabeth’s life changes when Matthew Macfadyen’s Mr. Darcy appears on the screen. Lizzie falls hard and makes a promise to herself that she will settle for nothing less than her own Mr. Darcy. This ill-advised pledge threatens to ruin any chance of finding true love. During the six intervening years, she has refused to give any interested suitors a chance. They weren’t Mr. Darcy enough. Coerced by her roommate, Elizabeth agrees to give the next interested guy ten dates before she dumps him. That guy is Chad, a kind and thoughtful science teacher and swim coach. While she’s dating Chad, her dream comes true in the form of a wealthy bookstore owner named Matt Dawson, who looks and acts like her Mr. Darcy. Of course she has to follow her dream. But as Elizabeth simultaneously dates a regular guy and the dazzling Mr. Dawson, she’s forced to re-evaluate what it was she loved about Mr. Darcy in the first place.

My Thoughts: Oh my goodness...I loved this book! I was not too sure what to expect and I started reading it with some reservations after reading a disappointing P&P spinoff. I was so glad that I gave My Own, Mr. Darcy a chance because I became enamored by it. I loved the story and I loved the characters!

I quite enjoyed how the story revolved around the idea of Lizzie trying to make her dream a reality: to marry her own Mr. Darcy. After watching the Keira Knightley version of Pride and Prejudice, Lizzie was determined to find her Matthew Macfadyen's version of Mr. Darcy. She ended finding herself stuck between two men, one who was like Mr. Darcy and the other was just a regular guy. Though I somewhat guessed as to who she would end up picking, I couldn't help but be enthralled with the thought of how things were going to end. I just absolutely adored the story.

The characters were well done. I found myself connecting a lot with Lizzie. Like her, I too loved Matthew Macfadyen's portrayal of Darcy. In fact, he too is MY Mr. Darcy. Also, there were many things that she said that I have found myself saying too. There were times though that I felt like shaking Lizzie for being so stubborn, but I have to admit that it was very admiring how she really tried to make her dream come true. The other character that I found myself loving was Chad. He was the perfect guy: he was sweet, caring, and thoughtful. I felt so sad for him how Lizzie treated him that I wanted to just give him a hug. Next, my least favorite character had to be Matt. He was a jerk. Grr...In a way, he resembled Mr. Darcy but in onther way he didn't. He was absolutely...ahh! I would stop now before I say some very inappropriate things about him.

Overall, I loved this book! I feel like I could go on and on to talk about how much I loved this book. I fully connected with the story and with Lizzie. It had me clutching my Nook and crying out "What?! Why?!" many times. It had been a while where I have found myself emotionally attached to a book so this was a splendid surprise. I rate this:

  5. Hey, Vonnie!

I just came across this review, from your post, "Remembering 2013", for the Last Minute Read-A-Thon. What a terrific review! I really enjoyed reading it! You've made me so curious about this book, since I read "Pride and Prejudice" -- twice-- in the past year, and am now very interested in Mr. Darcy.

I've looked up this novel on Amazon, and have already added it to my wish list there. Thanks for putting it on my radar! : )
