Book-to-Movie: Austenland (2013)

Director: Jerusha Hess
Writers: Jerusha Hess & Shannon Hale
Stars: Keri Russell, JJ Feild, Bret McKenzie, James Callis, Jane Seymour & Jennifer Coolidge

My Thoughts: I saw this movie listed onDemand and was debating whether or not watch it first before reading the book. I ended up giving in to the film since the preview looked adorable. I very much enjoy anything that is Jane Austen inspired, so I was looking forward to this one.

At first, I was not too sure what to expect with this film. I was pleasantly surprised how quirky and fun it was. I loved the characters and I loved the storyline. It was not the best film that I've watched but it won my heart.

The acting was wonderfully entertaining. Keri Russell was the perfect person for the part of Jane Hayes. She made her character very believable. Then we had Jennifer Coolidge who played Elizabeth. She was absolutely hilarious! She was my favorite in the film. She had me laughing at all the silly things that came out of her mouth. Jennifer had the best lines, which I like to repeat in certain situations. The men in the film were also great. I loved how they were able to represent different personalities. It was very fun to watch them.

Of course this movie inspired me to read the book. So how does it compare? I have to say that I actually preferred the movie version better only because how much more hilarious it was. What I did like about the book more was how the "relationship" between Jane and Mr. Nobley was better explained. It made me wish that these scenes were put in the film. (You can catch my book review here.)

At the end, I highly enjoyed Austenland. It's the perfect movie to just sit down and relax. I highly recommend it to those who are Jane Austen fans or are simply looking for a fun chick flick. I give it 4 stars!

  1. This is a fun film, and perfectly captures what it sets out to do as a chick flick. The actors were really great, and Ms. Charming totally steals the movie. I'm glad you enjoyed this one!
