Audiobook: 11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass

Read by Kathleen McInerney

Synopsis: It's Amanda's 11th birthday and she is super excited---after all, 11 is so different from 10. But from the start, everything goes wrong. The worst part of it all is that she and her best friend, Leo, with whom she's shared every birthday, are on the outs and this will be the first birthday they haven't shared together. When Amanda turns in for the night, glad to have her birthday behind her, she wakes up happy for a new day. Or is it? Her birthday seems to be repeating iself. What is going on?! And how can she fix it? Only time, friendship, and a little luck will tell. . .

My thoughts: Can you imagine having to live your birthday over and over again? Yeah, it would be at fun at first but after the third, fourth, eleventh time it starts to get a little scary and lonely. In this book, that's exactly what happened to our protagonists. Amanda and Leo have to live their eleventh birthdays every single day. 11 Birthdays was a fun and cute audiobook.

This was a sweet tale of friendship and magic. Wendy Mass did a great job in portraying the feelings and actions of our young characters. Though they were the opposite sex, Amanda and Leo showed a great bond of friendship. Even though they haven't talked to each other for a year, you can tell just how much they meant to each other by the way reacted to one another. I liked the little "weirdness" at the beginning of the book when the children were born, and was delighted to find the reason why these two characters had to be friends and why they had to celebrate their birthdays together. It was very fun to listen to.

11 Birthdays was narrated by Kathleen McInerney. She was able to capture Amanda's character very well and knew how to portray Leo's character. I enjoyed listening to McInerney's voice since it was smooth and playful at the same time. She made listening to this audio very entertaining.

This was a very cute story and a wonderful audiobook. I highly recommend it for those who are seeking a break from all their heavy readings and I recommend it to any tween who is looking for a way to pass the time. I rate it:
