Friday Hops, Oct 26th.

Book Blogger Hop

From the Crazy for Books blog:

"The Book Blogger Hop is much more than just a “follow for a follow”. It’s about making friends. There are literally thousands of book bloggers around the world. It can seem like we are blogging in a bubble, constantly checking the same blogs over and over again. The Hop is about taking the time to make a quality visit to another blog, getting to know the person who is writing that blog, and seeing if you really *want* to follow that person!"

Every week is a chance to visit a new blog or more, find connections, and learn about new books to read!

This week, the question is:

What are three of your favorite book blogs and/or communities? Why do you like them?

1. Shelfari- this is a wonderful book community similar to Goodreads. It's the first one I joined and it continues to be my favorite place to meet new book lovers and learn of new books. My favorite group in Shelfari is Bibliophile, which I co-adminster in. This group has monthly books and discussions, and I love how active it is.

2. Wall-to-Wall Books- My absolute favorite blog run by Wendy. I met Wendy over at Bibliophile and she helped me get started with my blog (Thanks, Wendy!). I love visiting her blog every day to read up on all her fabulous reviews and I especially enjoying seeing the fun stuff she has up every Friday. Go visit her and say "hi"!

3. The Readables- Priscilla is an awesome book vlogger and I absolutely love her videos! I watch every one of them and just love how passionate she is about sharing her thoughts about books. Her videos are what introduced me to the book vlog community (I don't post videos by the way), which led me to the blog community.

This is a weekly blog hop hosted by the wonderful Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. Today's question is:

What writing device or trick most irritates you when reading a book? For example, if an author employs an omnipotent narrator that is sometimes considered bad form.

There are some few devices that irritate me. First, (like many already said) I don't like the instant love between characters, especially when it is not written well. Second, I don't like it when the teenage character acts like they know EVERYTHING, even though they are not even 18 (you see this a lot in YA fiction). And lastly, I don't like it when the main female character falls in love with a male character because they are "hot." I know there are other things that I don't like but these are the few that popped into my mind.

  2. Awwwww Oh my gosh girl! You are too nice! Thank you so much! And I am seriously addicted to Shelfari!

I have always said that I do not like it when teen and child characters are not age appropriate. When a teen talks like an adult or a child says things that a child would never say. I rally don't mind when a book has a snotty, angsty, teen with an attitude because at least it is true to life, LOL. That is one of my pet peeves in books.

  6. Hi, Vonnie!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting on my Book Blogger Hop post!

OMG. You see what I mean about not being able to limit myself to only THREE favorite blogs? I really should have included yours in the list, because you have OUTRAGEOUSLY AWESOME blog design, and your posts are GREAT!! So guess what? I'm editing my post in order to include your blog. Yes, indeed!!

I love Shelfari and Goodreads as well. (What obsessed bookworm doesn't?) As for the blogs you've nentioned, I'm not familiar with them, so I'll have to take a look.

As for your 'pet peeves' in writing, I agree with you, except that I don't mind the use of 'instant love' quite so much, unless, as you say, it's not handled well by the author in question. But I'm a HUGE sucker for that kind of thing! You see, I'm a hopeless romantic...sigh...

You are SO right, though, about a female character falling in love with a male character strictly based on looks. (Although that's mostly how I fell for my husband, lol.) It does seem a bit shallow. On the other hand, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", as the saying goes. I MUCH prefer Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, instead of Daniel Craig, but there are women out there who would say the opposite. Go figure...

I'm heading out the door in a few minutes, but you can bet your bottom dollar I'll re-edit my post later today to include your blog!! : )

  7. Hi! New follower here. I laughed when I read where you wrote about MC's knowing everything in YA fiction. I never really thought about it but you are right. That happens a lot and it is a bit ridiculous. Thanks for sharing.

Also, I am giving away a Kindle or Nook on my blog if you are interested. The contest ends in 2 days!
