Book Blogger Hop

The Book Blogger Hop was created by Crazy-For-Books to help connect bloggers with other bloggers.

Every week is a chance to visit a new blog or more, find connections, and learn about new books to read!

This week, the question is hosted by The Fake Steph:

Is there a book series that you’re not totally into, but still keep buying new releases because you love the covers?

Hmmm...No, not really. I try not to read series because I tend to not finish them and the idea of not finishing a series will always leave me feeling guilty.

Though I have found myself buying books just because they had pretty covers, series or not. The majority of these books I haven't read yet :/

This is a weekly blog hop hosted by the wonderful Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. Today's question is:

Q: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

Great question. I will have to say yes and no. In this day in age, nothing is an original idea.

Stories always have some kind of influence from other tales. Trying to create an old idea and try to make your own as much as possible, I don't mind. I actually enjoy reading retellings and fanfiction if it's written well.

But I have come across a few (which I cannot remember the titles) where the author simply stole another book's idea. A few things would have been changed, such as the characters' names or the outcome in the story, but the rest of it will be the same as the other work. What is very irritating about this is that these authors try to pass these stolen works as originals. I'm not okay with this.

  1. Same. There is nothing entirely original, but as long as it's not a blatantly stolen story, I don't mind. :)

  5. I only feel guilty about not finishing a series if I'm like one or two books away from the end even if I am really disliking the series by the end. I just have to know the ending! But if I've only read one or two books in the series, then I'm fine with letting it go. :p

Nothing really is original. XD I agree with your whole answer there.

  7. Hopping through. I'm with you. I like retellings and fanfiction if it's well written. And with fanfic in particular that is rare.

  10. Great answer, yes I've come across the same where a book was blatantly copied from another story but the names had been changed. Super frustrating! But I don't mind stories inspired by others I mean every story written these days almost has to have some elements borrowed from others...Anyways thanks for sharing!
