Teaser Tuesday #4

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB from Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Here are my teasers:

"Humpty's ovoid body had fragmented almost completely and was scattered among the dustbins and rubbish at the far end of the yard. The previous night's heavy rain had washed away his liquid center, but even so there was still enough to give off an unmistakably eggy smell." ~ page 37 from The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde

"Something had been following me for days. Whether it was human, ghost or an in-between--like me--I had no idea. I'd never caught more than a glimpse out of the corner of my eye." ~first page from The Prophet by Amanda Stevens

  3. Your first teaser made me think of the movie "Puss In Boots," which I recently saw. (Yes, I'm a grown-up kid.)
Your second one introduced me to a kind of creature I've never heard of -- something that's in-between a human and a ghost. Not sure what that is!
    Both are good teasers,
My Teaser is from ... And the Whippoorwill Sang.
