Wild Wednesday is here and that means that it's time to share this week's book hauls!
From Paperbackswap:
From the $1 Book Store (a small chain in Los Angeles):
The Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda: A mother gives up her daughter and this daughter gets adopted across the world to a woman who can't have kids. Sounds like a tear jerker.
Possession by A.S. Byatt: This book has been catching my attention and I have no clue what it's about.
Casa Rossa by Francesca Marciano: The story of three women with a dark past. Hmm...
I loved Possession. Its a little heavy reading at times, but in the end worth it. There was a movie based on the book about 10 years ago. A research assistant finds a draft of a letter by a famous poet suggesting a relationship with another poet. The RA contacts a professor in researching more about the poets and they start looking together. It flips back and forth between their archival treasure hunt at present and the poets lives during the times of the letters.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've seen this $1 Book Store when I've been in LA. Probably safer that I don't know.
Good to know about Possession. It's been calling out to me for the past two years.
DeleteThere are only 4 $1 Book Stores and they are located at the edge of LA where it meets Orange County. The one I visit is in Lakewood. I'm glad that it's a long drive due to traffic because I would be there ALL of the time.
